The Marfa Lights: Examining the Photographic Evidence (2003–2007)

Manuel Borraz Aymerich, Vicente-Juan Ballester Olmos, 2020. FOTOCAT Report #8, Barcelona and Valencia.

A 176-page report that re-examines 17 photographs taken from the viewing area on four dates in 2003 and 2004, which James Bunnell presents in Strange Lights in West Texas as among his best images of genuine Marfa lights. Using Google Earth and Stellarium, the authors find errors in the reported azimuths and times, match every checkable light track to vehicles on Nopal/Escondido Road across Mitchell Flat and on ranch roads farther south, 8 to 30 km away, and conclude there is no objective evidence of an unexplained phenomenon. It opens with a review of earlier investigations from 1975 to 2013 and reproduces Bunnell's reply of 13 December 2018.
