Evidence · Incident 88: the Hackensack disc, 3 August 1947

The Air Force check-list repeats the FBI teletype and nothing from the interviews

The check-list remark for Incident 88 repeats the 4 August teletype almost word for word, and its fields for direction, duration, size, colour and shape are 'N/S', although the FBI's 13 August interviews give all five.

What it implies
  1. The Air Force's analysts worked from the teletype alone. For the key question: Why is the Air Force's record of the Hackensack sighting so much thinner than the FBI's?
  2. Hynek's 'lack of evidence' verdict was a verdict on the Air Force file, not on the evidence that existed. For: What did the three witnesses see over Hackensack on the evening of 3 August 1947?

Request or search the AC/AS-2 flying-disc correspondence and Project Sign administrative files at NARA for a copy or transmittal of the Newark letter. A copy dated before 1948 would show the Air Force had the interviews and did not use them; none would support the teletype-only reading.
