Seals as luxury ornaments and the Archanes script (chapter 4 of Cretan Hieroglyphic)
Anna Margherita Jasink, Judith Weingarten, 2024.
What it's used for here
Chapter 4 of Civitillo, Ferrara and Meissner (eds), Cretan Hieroglyphic, Cambridge University Press 2024, open access. Argues that the sign sequences on seals name the seal's owner or user rather than what was stamped, that the seals were luxury ornaments whose script was meant to be seen more than read, that the script originated on seals, and that the Archanes script should count as a third Minoan script. Chapter title here is descriptive, from Donnelly's review; the printed title was not retrieved.
