The Sun Dagger Interactive Computer Graphics Model: A Digital Restoration of a Chacoan Calendrical Site

Anna Sofaer, Alan Price, James Holmlund et al., 2011. Contemporary Archaeologies of the Southwest, University Press of Colorado: 67-92.

Records how the site was documented: timed photographs from 1978 (Kernberger), lunar standstill photographs in 1980 and 1987, photogrammetry in 1981 and 1984, and a laser scan in 2005, combined into a 3D model that reproduces the 1978 photographs. In 1989 the middle slab was found to have pivoted 2 to 5 cm and the markings no longer formed as recorded; by 2005 it had moved 15 cm on one axis, the eastern slab 5.4 cm and the western 0.8 cm. Places the site on a south-east-facing cliff near the top of the 135 m butte.
