Acoustics Monitoring Program: Icequakes (Bloop)

Acoustics Program NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory, n.d.. NOAA PMEL Acoustics Program (pmel.noaa.gov).

The program's own page for the Bloop. States that the broadband sounds recorded in summer 1997 are consistent with icequakes from large icebergs cracking, that hydrophones in the Scotia Sea recorded many icequakes with similar spectrograms while tracking iceberg A53a in early 2008, that such icequakes are heard at over 5,000 km, and that the arrival azimuth puts the source between Bransfield Strait and the Ross Sea, or at Cape Adare. Links the recording (sped up 16 times) and comparison sounds of calving and iceberg harmonic tremor.
