What is the Bermuda Triangle?

NOAA National Ocean Service, 2010. NOAA Ocean Facts (oceanservice.noaa.gov).

NOAA's statement on the Triangle, posted 4 January 2010 and unaltered since. Lists the supernatural and scientific proposals; names hurricanes, the Gulf Stream, shallow Caribbean waters and compass variation as environmental factors; reports that the Navy and Coast Guard see no supernatural cause, that no official map delimits the area and that the US Board on Geographic Names does not recognise the name; concludes that there is no evidence that disappearances occur more often there than in any other large, well-travelled area of ocean.
