Geochemical provenancing and direct dating of the Harbin archaic human cranium

Qingfeng Shao, Junyi Ge, Qiang Ji et al., 2021. The Innovation 2(3): 100131.

The cranium was reportedly found in 1933 when the Dongjiang Bridge was built over the Songhua River in Harbin, and its context was lost. XRF, rare-earth and strontium-isotope analyses match it to the upper Upper Huangshan Formation (OSL 138-309 ka); ten U-series analyses on the bone give a minimum age of 146 ka.
