If there is a monster in Loch Ness, this geneticist will find it

Illumina, 2025. Illumina News Center, feature article, 10 January 2025.

A sequencing company's feature on Neil Gemmell's 2018 environmental DNA survey: just over 250 one-litre water samples in triplicate along the loch's length and down to 220 m, plus samples from Lochs Cluanie, Oich, Tarff and Dun Seilcheig; extraction at Hull, metabarcoding at Grenoble with Pierre Taberlet, sequencing at Fasteris in Geneva. Reports no reptile DNA, all 13 fish species known in the loch, eel DNA at every sampling site, and Gemmell's plan for a continuous "Loch Ness 2.0" survey, for which he is seeking sponsorship.
