Torsten Meissner, Ester Salgarella, 2024.
What it's used for here
Chapter 7 of Civitillo, Ferrara and Meissner (eds), Cretan Hieroglyphic, Cambridge University Press 2024, open access. Supports one signary covering seal and clay signs and proposes real-world referents from which some signs took their sound by acrophony (the first syllable of the name of the thing drawn), for example sign 42 / AB 08 (Linear B a) from a weapon word, and ko from a spindle; Donnelly's review notes that the weapon idea goes back to Buchholz. Chapter title here is descriptive.
