The World according to Herodotus

1897. Herodotus. The text of Canon Rawlinson's translation, with the notes abridged, vol. 2: 387.

A Victorian reconstruction of the world as Herodotus described it, not an ancient map. In Libya it marks Atlas M. ("Coeli columna"), the Atlantes, Atarantes and Garamantes, and the sandy ridge ("Supercilium arenosum") running to the Pillars of Heracles, with Libya Deserta beyond. No Atlantis appears on it: Herodotus does not mention one.
