The time-transgressive termination of the African Humid Period

Timothy M. Shanahan, Nicholas P. McKay, Konrad A. Hughen et al., 2015. Nature Geoscience 8(2): 140-144.

A 20,000-year rainfall record from leaf waxes in Lake Bosumtwi, Ghana, set beside a synthesis of hydrological records from across Africa. The African Humid Period lasted from about 14,800 to 5,500 years ago; its end was "locally abrupt, but occurred progressively later at lower latitudes".
