The White Shaman Mural: An Enduring Creation Narrative in the Rock Art of the Lower Pecos
Carolyn E. Boyd, Kim Cox, 2016. University of Texas Press, Austin.
Monograph on the mural, about 26 feet long and 13 feet high: the microscopy of its paint layers, which shows one planned composition, and a reading of it as a narrative of the birth of the sun and the beginning of time, built from Huichol (chapter 5) and Nahua (chapter 6) myth and ritual. Holds that a shared ideology was established in the Lower Pecos as long as four thousand years ago.
What it's used for here
Boyd's reading and the paint-sequence study.
