Thomaz Pinotti, Michael A. Adler, Richard Mermejo et al., 2025. Nature 642: 125-132.
A study initiated by Picuris Pueblo: genomes of 16 ancient and 13 present-day Picuris people show continuity with each other and with the Ancestral Puebloans buried at Pueblo Bonito, 275 km to the west, with no sign of population decline before European arrival. Genetic data remain under tribal control.
