Planet Hunters IX. KIC 8462852 – where's the flux?

T. S. Boyajian, D. M. LaCourse, S. A. Rappaport et al., 2016. Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society 457(4), 3988–4004.

The discovery paper. Planet Hunters volunteers flagged irregular, aperiodic dips of up to about 20 per cent in the Kepler light curve of an otherwise ordinary F-type main-sequence star with no infrared excess. The team rules out instrumental causes, weighs a range of scenarios and favours a family of exocomet or planetesimal fragments.
