Use your best endeavours to discover a sheltered and safe harbour
Robert W. Park, Douglas R. Stenton, 2019. Polar Record 55(6): 361-372.
The expedition reported "All well" on 24 May 1847; by 22 April 1848 the 129 men had fallen to 105, and at least 24 more died within about 100 km of the ships. Compares this with low mortality on other Arctic expeditions and asks what on board made Franklin's crews so unhealthy.
