Archaeometallurgical investigation of the Nebra Sky Disc

Sebastian Dieck, Oliver Michael, Markus Wilke et al., 2024. Scientific Reports 14, 28868.

Metallography of a small sample from the disc's rim (colour etching, EDS, EBSD, microhardness) compared with a replica forged from an alloy of the same composition. Shows the disc was cast as a flat preform and then hot-forged in about ten cycles of heating to nearly 700 °C and hammering, ending with a heat treatment.
