The Commentaries of the Great Afonso Dalboquerque, Second Viceroy of India, vol. III

Brás de Albuquerque, Walter de Gray (translator) Birch, 1880. Hakluyt Society, first series no. 62, London (translated from the Lisbon edition of 1774).

The account compiled by Albuquerque's son from his father's letters, first printed in 1557. Volume III covers Malacca: chapter XLII tells how the governor, sailing for India, "was wrecked on some shallows off the coast of Sumatra, and miraculously saved", reaching the Trindade on a raft; chapter XLIII tells "what was lost in the ship Flor de la Mar". Birch's notes quote Gaspar Correia's Lendas da Índia, which has the governor leaving Malacca on 1 December 1511 and reaching Cochin in January 1512.
