A high-coverage genome from a 200,000-year-old Denisovan

Stéphane Peyrégne, Diyendo Massilani, Yaniv Swiel et al., 2025. bioRxiv.

A second high-quality Denisovan genome, from a molar of a man who lived at Denisova Cave about 200,000 years ago. His group mixed with early Neanderthals and was replaced by later Denisovans; Denisovans also received gene flow from a deeper hominin lineage. Present-day people carry DNA from at least three Denisovan groups, and Oceanians and South Asians share a deeply diverged one.
