Deep Ultraviolet Radiation Simulates the Turin Shroud Image

Paolo Di Lazzaro, Daniele Murra, Antonino Santoni et al., 2010. Journal of Imaging Science and Technology 54(4): 040302.

ArF excimer laser pulses at 193 nm gave raw linen a permanent yellow coloration confined to a sub-micrometre outer layer of the fibres, with a colourless medulla, and a latent coloration that appeared after artificial ageing. The authors find an overlap with the main features of the Shroud image.
