Studies on the radiocarbon sample from the shroud of turin
Raymond N. Rogers, 2005. Thermochimica Acta 425(1-2): 189-194.
Argues from threads said to come from the radiocarbon area that the sampled corner contains cotton and a dye or coating not found in the main cloth, so is a later repair and not representative, and that vanillin loss implies a cloth much older than the radiocarbon date.
What it's used for here
The "invisible repair" reading of the 1988 sample.
