The Languages of the Northern Sudan: an Historical Perspective
Bruce G. Trigger, 1966. The Journal of African History 7 (1), 19-25.
Reviews where the Nubian languages came from, placing their homeland in Kordofan or Darfur and their arrival on the middle Nile between about AD 200 and 500, where they replaced Meroitic; suggests that Meroitic may be, but has not been proved to be, an Eastern Sudanic language.
What it's used for here
The early statement of the Eastern Sudanic hypothesis that Rilly later demonstrated.
