Meroitic Inscriptions (Chapter IX of Randall-MacIver and Woolley, Areika)

Francis Llewellyn Griffith, 1909. D. Randall-MacIver and C. L. Woolley, Areika. Eckley B. Coxe Junior Expedition to Nubia, vol. 1. Oxford.

Griffith's first treatment of the cursive funerary texts found by the 1907 expedition. Surveys the earlier work and identifies the clue Lepsius had found: a bark stand from the temple of Wad ban Naga, taken to Berlin, on which a king and queen wrote their names in both Egyptian and Meroitic hieroglyphs. From it and the cursive parallels he sets out sign values.
