Richard (ed.) Hakluyt, John (narratives of 1587 and 1590) White, 1904. James MacLehose and Sons, Glasgow (reprint of the 1598–1600 edition).

Contains John White's narrative of the 1587 voyage (landing at Roanoke on 22 July instead of the intended Chesapeake Bay, the birth of Virginia Dare on 18 August, the colonists' request of 25 August that White return to England for supplies, his departure on 27 August), the list of men, women and children who stayed, and his account of the 1590 return, introduced by his letter to Hakluyt of February 1593 (p. 404; the voyage pp. 406–422): "CRO" carved on a tree and "CROATOAN" on a palisade post without the agreed cross of distress (p. 416–417), houses taken down, a palisade built, chests dug up, and storms that prevented the voyage to Croatoan.
