Fragment of the Sphinx's beard (British Museum EA58)
Not kept here. This copy isn't ours to show. See it where it's published.
Limestone, 78.7 by 51.5 by 38 cm, part of a plaited divine beard. The British Museum dates it to the 18th Dynasty, as part of Thutmose IV's restoration; Digital Giza files the Cairo fragments under Dynasty 4, and the Wikipedia summary holds that the beard was original and reassembled. Which is right bears on the head-recarving question.
