QuestionsGlozel: the inscribed tablets of the Fradin fieldAre the inscribed tablets of Glozel ancient objects, and if so from what period?Answer
Answer · Glozel: the inscribed tablets of the Fradin field
A genuine Iron Age and Gallo-Roman site
The tablets and ceramics are genuine products of a Celtic and Gallo-Roman occupation of about 300 BC to AD 300, and the later dates come from reheating in medieval kilns and field fires.
Where it stands
Still possibleOne piece of evidence for, one against. It needs two reviews to be accepted.
What it predicts
- Core samples from reheated tablets will retain an Iron Age TL signal under the medieval or modern surface signal.
- Inscribed tablets with Iron Age dates will carry signs cut before firing.
- Excavation in the valley will find Iron Age structures or stratified Glozel-type material.
What would rule it out
- Surface and core TL on the Iron Age group agree and the core shows no older signal while modern fibres or plant matter are confirmed inside the same tablets.
- Sign-sequence statistics on the whole corpus match random draws from an alphabet table.
