The Atlantes of Herodotus
A Libyan people named after Mount Atlas; location unknown
Note
The point is nominal: it is set on the Atlas range because Herodotus names the Atlantes after Mount Atlas. He places them by a hill of salt, twenty days' journey from the Garamantes on the salt ridge that runs to the Pillars of Heracles (4.184–185), which does not fix a position. They are a people, not an island, and Herodotus never mentions Atlantis.
