Atlas Mountains
Mount Atlas of Herodotus and Pliny; Berlioux's Atlantis
Note
Position from Wikidata Q130135 for the modern range. Herodotus (4.184) describes Mount Atlas as slender and conical, "the pillar of heaven", and names the Atlantes after it; Pliny (5.1) calls it "the most fabulous locality even in Africa". Which mountain Herodotus meant is not settled by his text. Berlioux (1883) identified Atlantis with the land of the Atlas.
