Strait of Gibraltar
Plato's Pillars of Heracles
Note
Position from Wikidata Q36124. Plato puts Atlantis in the Atlantic in front of the Pillars of Heracles, which the Loeb translation glosses as the Straits of Gibraltar; Herodotus (4.185) runs his Libyan salt ridge as far as the Pillars. Not everyone agrees on the place: Borchardt (1927) put the Pillars at a temple of Hercules at Gabès, and some Richat proponents place them elsewhere again.
