What it's used for here

Haarmann's fullest statement that the Vinča signs are an "Old European script", the earliest writing, and that about half of Linear A's signs derive from it. Berlin and New York: Mouton de Gruyter (Approaches to Semiotics 124), ISBN 3-11-014651-7; imprint date 1996 on some copies. The Linear A derivation rests on shape comparison across two millennia and has no following among Aegean epigraphers.
