Efficient Cryptanalysis of Homophonic Substitution Ciphers
Amrapali Dhavare, Richard M. Low, Mark Stamp, 2013. Cryptologia.
Gives a hill-climbing attack on homophonic substitution ciphers, in which one plaintext letter can map to several ciphertext symbols, and tests it on the Zodiac ciphers.
What it's used for here
The mixed-keys survey takes from it the measure of how hard a homophonic cipher is to break, and the result that Z340 resisted without cribs.
