Enciphered after all? Word-level Text Metrics are Compatible with some Types of Encipherment
Claire Bowern, Daniel Gaskell, 2022. Proceedings of the International Conference on the Voynich Manuscript 2022 (CEUR Workshop Proceedings 3313).
Enciphers known texts in several ways and compares their word-level metrics with the Voynich text, finding that some types of encipherment produce figures compatible with the manuscript; Currier B came out closer to the cipher versions than A.
What it's used for here
The bioinformatics and signal-processing survey adopts its set of manipulations (substitution, vowel deletion, class merging, bigraph encoding and null insertion) as the cipher controls for its tests.
