The eccentric Kozai–Lidov mechanism as the cause of exocomet transits of KIC 8462852

Steven D. Young, Mark C. Wyatt, 2023. Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society 527(3), 5244–5264.

Monte Carlo model of wide binaries with misaligned planetesimal belts, testing whether the companion could drive belt objects onto star-grazing orbits. The probability of seeing one or more such stars in the Kepler field is about 1.3 × 10⁻³, so the mechanism is unlikely to explain KIC 8462852.
