Strong Release of Methane on Mars in Northern Summer 2003
Michael J. Mumma, Geronimo L. Villanueva, Robert E. Novak et al., 2009. Science 323(5917), 1041–1045.
High-dispersion infrared spectra from three ground-based telescopes in 2003 and 2006 show methane in extended plumes released from discrete regions; the main northern-midsummer plume held about 19,000 tonnes, from a source of at least 0.6 kg per second.
