Retraction: Shocked quartz at the Younger Dryas onset (12.8 ka) supports cosmic airbursts/impacts contributing to North American megafaunal extinctions and collapse of the Clovis technocomplex

The PLOS One Editors, 2026. PLOS One 21, e0342620.

The retraction notice of 11 February 2026. The age model used published radiocarbon dates but omitted some available samples, did not make clear where some dates came from, and included dates spanning centuries either side of the onset; the whole section was not sampled, so spikes at other depths and above background could not be assessed; and without age models the spikes could reflect changes in sedimentation rate. Eight authors disagreed.
