The cobs in the archaeological context of the San José Galleon shipwreck

Daniela Vargas Ariza, Antonio Jaramillo Arango, Jesús Alberto Aldana Mendoza et al., 2025. Antiquity 99(407).

The first peer-reviewed publication from the Colombian state's survey of the wreck. Four non-invasive campaigns since 2015; high-resolution ROV images and photogrammetry of gold cobs on the seabed show Lima mint marks and the date 1707, with the arms of Castile and León, placing the sinking after 1707 and strengthening the identification as the San José.
