Contribution of VLF electromagnetic survey to the investigation of Hessdalen lights (Norway)

G. N. Vargemezis, J. Zlotnicki, B. G. Hauge et al., 2024. Journal of Applied Geophysics 226, 105398.

VLF measurements at about 20 m spacing along traces totalling about 100 km over about 100 km², from six geophysical campaigns that sometimes included total-field magnetic and self-potential surveys. Finds conductive zones, mainly sulphide deposits, whose surface traces may outline a 6 × 12 km SW–NE ellipse following the gabbro intrusion, and argues that these near-surface structures (less than a few hundred metres deep) could supply the generation of the lights and explain why they appear in this valley. Received March 2022, accepted 10 May 2024.
