Purdue University News, 2026. Purdue University Newsroom.

The expedition sponsors' announcement of 18–19 October 2026: the joint Archaeological Legacy Institute, Purdue Research Foundation and Purdue University team sailed from Tarawa on 6 October, spent seven days at Nikumaroro with four onshore, and found the Taraia Object to be a cluster of large tree trunks coated with carbonate-cemented coral sand, with one Y-shaped segment remaining; a steel tube about 30 inches long was recovered from the lagoon.
