A bright millisecond-duration radio burst from a Galactic magnetar
CHIME/FRB Collaboration, B. C. Andersen, K. M. Bandura et al., 2020. Nature 587(7832), 54–58.
CHIME detection of a two-component radio burst from the Galactic magnetar SGR 1935+2154 on 28 April 2020, with an energy of about 3 × 10³⁴ erg in the 400–800 MHz band, three orders of magnitude above any earlier magnetar radio burst. A burst like it from a nearby galaxy would look like an FRB.
What it's used for here
The proof that magnetars make FRB-like bursts.
