The Dynamics of Interstellar Asteroids and Comets within the Galaxy: An Assessment of Local Candidate Source Regions for 1I/'Oumuamua and 2I/Borisov
Tim Hallatt, Paul Wiegert, 2020. The Astronomical Journal.
Shows that scattering by the Galactic disc limits any back-integration to about 15 pc accuracy at 10 million years and 400 pc at 100 million, so a home star can only be named statistically; finds the origin likely within 1 kpc and the Carina and Columba moving groups the most plausible source regions. AJ 159, 147.
What it's used for here
Why the traceback cannot name a single home star.
