Detrital zircon–apatite fingerprinting challenges glacial transport of Stonehenge's megaliths
Anthony J. I. Clarke, Christopher L. Kirkland, 2026. Communications Earth & Environment.
Zircon (401 concordant grains) and apatite ages from four river sands draining Salisbury Plain match local recycled sediment like the London Basin's Thanet Formation. Only one grain falls near the 464 Ma age of the Preseli sources that glacial delivery would bring in quantity; the authors conclude the Plain was not glaciated.
