The Role of Base 10 in the Beale Papers
Viktor Wase, 2020. Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Historical Cryptology, HistoCrypt 2020, Linköping Electronic Conference Proceedings 171: 153-157.
Looks at the last digits of the cipher numbers in bases prime to 10. In those bases the last digits of ciphers 1 and 3 become uniform, which Wase reads as numbers made up by a person thinking in base 10.
What it's used for here
A second statistical test pointing to fabrication of ciphers 1 and 3.
