Was the flashing light really the lighthouse?
Ian Ridpath, n.d.. ianridpath.com.
Ridpath's case that the flashing light the airmen followed was the Orford Ness lighthouse, first suggested to him by the forester Vince Thurkettle after the News of the World story of October 1983, that it is visible only from parts of the forest edge, and that Halt probably mistook another light, likely the Shipwash lightship, for the lighthouse.
