Archeology at Fort Raleigh
National Park Service, 2026. nps.gov.
The history of excavation at the park: Talcott Williams in 1895, J. C. Harrington's location of the earthwork in 1947 and its reconstruction in 1950, finds including a barrel (1982), a copper necklace (2008) and tin-glazed earthenware (2016). States that the colony's location remains unknown and that erosion has cut almost half a mile from Roanoke Island, so the site may be under water.
