Botanical observations on the Voynich MS
Hugh O'Neill, 1944. Speculum 19(1): 126.
A short note by a botanist in Speculum identifying two plants in the manuscript as a sunflower and a capsicum pepper, both American, and dating the book after 1493 on that basis.
What it's used for here
The book uses it as the best-known example of a plant identification that failed, since the radiocarbon date of 1404 to 1438 rules it out.
