The linguistics of the Voynich manuscript

Claire L. Bowern, Luke Lindemann, 2021. Annual Review of Linguistics 7: 285–308.

A review of linguistic work on the Voynich Manuscript. It argues that the text should be treated as language rather than a hoax and shows what statistics can say about its sound system, word structure and organization while it remains unread.

What it's used for here

The book relies on it repeatedly: for character entropy lower than in all 250 comparison languages, for the A/B entropy gap that closes when qo- and -dy are removed, and for how the choice of transcription alphabet affects the figures.
