Rosetta's first Earth perigee, 4 March 2005
flyby perigee (ground point)
Note
The point on the ground beneath Rosetta at closest approach (2005-03-04 22:09:14 UTC), over the Pacific off western Mexico, computed from JPL Horizons' reconstructed trajectory (sub-observer point, geodetic; distance 8,332 km from Earth's centre). Acedo (2017) tabulates the same perigee's geocentric latitude. ESA's preview put the closest approach "over Mexico".
