Why it matters

The Gradešnica plaque is early Chalcolithic, the Karanovo seal belongs to the later Karanovo VI horizon, and the Dispilio tablet is a Greek lakeside find of 5260 ± 40 BC; the Danube script literature treats all three as one script with the Vinča pottery marks[1][2][3]. Owens, reviewing them as an Aegean epigrapher, found no demonstrable connection between them or to the Aegean scripts[4]. The Dispilio marks have never been published, so for that object the question cannot yet be asked[3].
