Tel Lachish

Bronze and Iron Age city mound

Tel Lachish is a tell in the record of Proto-Sinaitic and Wadi el-Hol: the first alphabet, placed to about 100 m.

Three events on the site happened here, between 1449 and 2022: An ink inscription of six letters is written on a Cypriot bowl at Lachish, later radiocarbon-dated to the 15th century BC, and later Vainstub and colleagues read a seventeen-letter sentence on an ivory comb from Lachish.

Source of the Lachish dagger, ewer and bowl inscriptions, the 2018 sherd dated to the 15th century BC and the ivory comb.

One artifact in the record is tied to it, including The Lachish early alphabetic texts: the 2018 bowl sherd and the ivory comb.
