Where it stands

Still possibleOne piece of evidence for, one against. It needs two reviews to be accepted.

What it predicts

  • Any further Kalašma text will show the same Luwic inflections and the same non-Luwian features.
  • The provisional translation will be consistent with the Hittite frame of any parallel ritual that is found.

What would rule it out

  • A fuller text shows the recitation to be a dialect of Luwian, or of Palaic, rather than a distinct language.
  • The provisional reading is contradicted by a Hittite paraphrase of the same recitation.
