The Dreros bilingual (Dreros 1)
Not kept here. This copy isn't ours to show. See it where it's published.
A grey schist block, 750 x 260 x 245 mm, found in autumn 1936 in the Hellenistic cistern beside the east wall of the Delphinion at Dreros. Two deeply cut lines of Eteocretan with word dividers (et, isalabre, komn, men, inai, isaluria, lmo) stand above three worn boustrophedon lines of Cretan Greek containing ewade, "it was decided", and turon, "cheese". Kept at Neapoli, it was lost during the occupation of Crete in the Second World War and is known from van Effenterre's drawings and photographs.
